A Personal Note from the Creator
“Of all my creations, Shield taught me that some things need patience and time to bring the greatest rewards.”
This formula could never be rushed. It demanded time, patience, and respect for the nature of every ingredient. Each botanical, sacred wood, and resin is macerated separately, some for weeks, others for months, allowing them to slowly release their unique aromatic character. Watching this transformation was extraordinary. What began as individual ingredients gradually revealed something far more complex: layers of earthy, woody, warm, and deeply captivating aromas. Only when each preparation was ready did they come together. Then began another transformation, as the ingredients unite, mature, and evolve through cycles of rest and time.
Nothing could be hurried. Every ingredient has its purpose. Every stage carries an intention. And when Shield was finally ready, it was more than an aroma. It is an experience. A feeling of strength, grounding, and reassurance, as though I had wrapped myself in an invisible shield of protection. It was ready to be shared and go to work.
The Sacred Botanicals Behind SHIELD
Palo Santo. Sacred Wood & Ancestral Connection
The Palo Santo in Shield came from Peru, a land where this sacred aromatic wood has been treasured for generations. Native to the tropical dry forests of northern Peru and southern Ecuador, particularly the region of Piura, Palo Santo is deeply connected to the land and its ancestral traditions.
I am especially grateful to my sister, who lovingly honored my unusual request to bring me a bag of this sacred wood during one of her travels. I can only imagine her traveling with a bag of wood and that unmistakable, powerful fragrance following her along the way!
Known as Holy Wood, Palo Santo has long been valued in traditional cleansing and spiritual rituals. Its warm, woody aroma is associated with purification, grounding, and inviting peace, harmony, and positive energy.
For me, Palo Santo represents the sacred act of cleansing with intention, reclaiming your space, and honoring the presence and wisdom of your ancestors. It is about consciously clearing what does not belong, calling upon your ancestral roots, and creating a sacred space where your energy, your intentions, and your spirit are protected.
Palo Santo reminds us that our space is sacred, our roots are powerful, and cleansing is not simply about what we release, but also about what we allow in and consciously choose to invite.
Frankincense Divine Connection & Spiritual Blessings
Every ingredient holds a story, and I believe honoring its heritage is part of honoring its purpose.
The frankincense used in Shield was sourced from Oman, the ancient Land of Frankincense, home to the revered Boswellia sacra tree. For thousands of years, its precious resin has traveled across deserts and oceans, treasured by civilizations for its extraordinary aroma and sacred significance.
Traveling to Oman to personally collect this resin was not possible, but having it shipped from its land of origin was. Was it expensive? Absolutely. But some ingredients are worth the extra effort and cost, especially when their heritage is as precious as the resin itself. I wanted more than any frankincense. I wanted to honor the land, the traditions, and the remarkable tree that has offered its aromatic treasures for centuries.
One of the most revered resins in history, frankincense has been used in prayer, meditation, and sacred ceremonies as a symbol of purification, spiritual protection, and connection to the divine. Its rich, resinous aroma invites stillness, reflection, and a sense of sacred presence.
For me, frankincense is nature's divine gift, a precious gold born from a tree. An offering of the earth carrying centuries of prayer, reverence, and spiritual wisdom. Its essence speaks of something greater than protection. It speaks of blessings. Frankincense reminds me that nature does more than protect us. It blesses us, bringing us closer to the divine and the light that lives within us.
Its true value goes beyond its price or fragrance. It lies in the centuries of heritage held within every precious drop of resin. That is what I wanted to bring into Shield: not simply an ingredient, but a story, a tradition, and an intention worthy of being preserved.
White Sage. Purification & Gentle Strength
Sage was a little more forgiving in my search for the right ingredients.
I chose White Sage (Salvia apiana) to serve as the gentle protector among Shield's more intense botanicals. Soft in its presence, yet equally meaningful in its traditional spiritual significance.
Native to the arid coastal regions and dry landscapes of Southern California and Baja California, Mexico, white sage has been used by Indigenous communities for generations in sacred ceremonies, purification rituals, and traditional practices. Fortunately, sourcing this botanical was much easier than obtaining some of Shield's other precious ingredients. But easier to find does not mean less valuable. Every ingredient has its own purpose, and white sage brings a beautiful sense of balance to the formula.
Traditionally associated with cleansing, purification, and spiritual renewal, its distinctive herbal aroma symbolizes the clearing of unwanted influences, the restoration of harmony, and the welcoming of peaceful energy.
What I love most about white sage is how it reminds us that gentleness can hold just as much power as strength. Not everything needs to be bold or intense to make a meaningful contribution.
For me, white sage is a reminder that true strength takes many forms. Sometimes the quietest presence carries the most profound strength. Because protection is not always about building stronger walls. Sometimes, it begins with creating space for peace.
Sage’s gentle nature makes it a beautiful companion to the more commanding botanicals in Shield, supporting their collective intention without losing its own identity. It represents a gentler form of protection: the wisdom of knowing what to welcome, what to release, and what deserves a place in our lives.
When Three Sacred Traditions Become One Intention
More than an aroma. A sacred intention of protection, strength, and divine connection.
Palo Santo, frankincense, and white sage each carry their own history, aromatic character, and spiritual significance. Each is prepared with patience, honoring its individual nature before becoming part of something greater. Once their individual macerations have reached their intended maturity, they are carefully united with a separate maceration of other sacred botanicals, including rue and additional aromatic ingredients, each selected for its traditional significance and unique contribution to the formula. Together, they begin another transformation. Their aromas intertwine, deepen, and evolve, creating layers that no single ingredient could achieve alone.
The true beauty of Shield. It is not about the power of one ingredient over another, but the harmony created when each is given the time and space and respect to contribute its own nature.
The Intention Behind SHIELD
I set out to create a protective spray, but somewhere along the journey, I realized I wasn't creating protection. I was allowing it to take form. What began as a blend of sacred botanicals became something far greater than a beautiful fragrance. It became an expression of strength, intention, and empowerment you can feel. Because a shield is not something you simply wear. It is something you carry, as warriors do, not out of fear, but with the courage and wisdom to protect what is sacred.
The Intention is more than protection it is a reminder of your strength, your boundaries, your peace, and the light you carry within. Something that invites you to remember that not every force needs to be confronted, not every burden needs to be carried, and not everything deserves access to your peace. Because sometimes protection begins with a simple intention: Trusting that everything you need will come in its own divine time. Until then, you have SHIELD, a sacred reminder that your intentions, your peace, and your space are worthy of protection.
